Woodslane Farm’s Wolfie’s Dynaghost remained a perfect 3-for-3 over the synthetic surface with a convincing 2 1⁄4-length victory in the $299,600 TwinSpires Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park. It was the first blacktype victory for the tough son son of Ghostzapper – Dynaire by Dynaformer after placing in five blacktype events since 2020, including runner up finishes in the G3 Kitten´s Joy Stakes (G3) and the G3 Poker Stakes (G3). Bred by his owners, he was foaled at Hidden Brook Farm in Paris, Kentucky and his bankroll now stands at $586,805.
Trained by Jonathan Thomas, Wolfie’s Dynaghost broke sharply from the starting gate and sat second into the first turn, just outside of Two Birds. Velazquez and Wolfie’s Dynaghost poked their head in front at the half-mile pole and never gave up the lead. At the top of the lane, 9-1 longshot Verstappen attempted to make a run at the Wolfie’s Dynaghost but proved to be second best.
Ridden by Hall of Famer John Velazquez, Wolfie’s Dynaghost completed 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.09 and earned a 101 Beyer Speed Figure. Among those left in his wake was dual 2022 Grade 1 winner Santin.
Later that same Saturday afternoon, Santa Fe Gold exploded to her first blacktype win, an 8 1/4 length demolition of the $100,000 TTA Oaks at Sam Houston. The daughter of Fast Anna was bred by Douglas Scharbauer and was also foaled, and raised, on the iconic Hidden Brook Farm property.
Her career record now stands at 6 3-1-0 with earnings of $131,835.
