Yo Cuz remains impossible to catch in New York-bred stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
In the March 27 $100,000 East View Stakes at seven furlongs at Aqueduct, Yo Cuz set a moderate pace and quickly pulled clear on the turn to easily beat five rivals for her third consecutive stakes win.
Ridden by Jose Ortiz, Yo Cuz ($3.30) won by 5 1/4 lengths over 5-2 Stone Creator. Captainsdaughter (17-1) closed from last of six to finish third, beaten a neck. Yo Cuz was timed in 1:26.94 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure.
Yo Cuz, by the Uncle Mo stallion Laoban, races for Dream Maker Racing and is trained by Bill Mott. She was sold by Hidden Brook Farm at the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Old in Training sale and is a graduate of the famed Hidden Brook Florida training center. Yo Cuz has won 3 of 4 starts and earned $387,800.
Also on March 27, Treasure King wore down pace-setter Tapthespeedofsound in late stretch of the $110,000 Sophomore Turf Stakes under Hall of Fame jockey Javier Castellano for a three-quarter-length victory in only his second career start.
Now 2-for-2, Treasure King posted a time of 1:42.19 for the 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf course. Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher conditions Treasure King.
“I really like this horse,” Castellano said. “He’s by a Galileo horse (Treasure Beach ), so I thought he would like the turf. Everything he did, he did the right way. I had a lot of confidence to win the race.”
Treasure King was bred by Patricia Generazio and is owned by Mathis Stable. The colt is out of Wave of Glory, by Midshipman. The latest Stakes winner to graduate from the Hidden Brook Florida training center, Treasure King was sold by Hidden Brook at last year´s OBS June sale.
