The Tiznow colt Alternative Route overcame a bumpy start and a contentious early pace to win the $75,000 Rushaway Stakes at Turfway Park.
Racing for the partnership of Spendthrift Farm and Town Country Farm, Alternative Route was bumped after breaking from post 7 in the 1 1/16 mile contest. He quickly regained stride and attended the early pace with longshot Giant Honor through fractions of :24.60, :48.11 and 1:12.49. He had a length advantage turning for home and held all challengers at bay down the lane, coasting home 1 3/4 lengths in front in 1:46.38.
Alternative Route was one of the standouts of the 2016 Hidden Brook consignment at the Keeneland September Yearling sale. He was hammered down for $325,000, making him one of the highest-priced Tiznow colts sold that year. By comparison Tiznow colts averaged $181,652 in 2016 ($125,000 median). The high profile pinhooking team of Hartley/De Renzo signed the ticket and later resold the colt at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton March sale to the current connections.
