Hoosier Philly, looked like she couldn’t lose the Joseph “Spanky” Broussard Memorial on Decmeber 26 at Fair Grounds and she came through again for her connections.
Edgar Morales guided Hoosier Philly to the lead from post 1 and Hoosier Philly made light work of five foes, coasting to a 4 3/4-length score over 17-10 second choice Nom de Plume in the $100,000 Broussard, a mile 70-yard dirt race for older fillies and mares. She clocked 1:43.20 over a fast track and paid $3.80.
Morales sat chilly through a half-mile in 48.35 and barely moved around the far turn and into the homestretch as jockeys on chasing rivals urged their chasing mounts, futilely, to gain on the leader. Not asked through the final furlong, Hoosier Philly still increased her advantage, an easy, and expected winner.
Hoosier Philly was freshened and prepared for her 4-year-old campaign at Hidden Brook Florida and the Brousard is her second black type victory of the year.
