Carotari shook off last year’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) third-place finisher and spurted away down the lane only to be swarmed late by Fig Jelly to his outside and Archidust o his inside when he drifted slightly. The wire came just in time as he held the advantage by a neck.
It was the first career black-type score for Carotari, a graduate of the Hidden Brook Florida training program.
The son of Artie Schiller was last seen over this same course and trip Jan. 25 when a neck second in the World of Trouble Turf Sprint S. He closed 2019 with a Dec. 6 win here over the same distance and has only thrice been off the board in 12 starts. Trained in his 2018 debut by Luis Mendez, Carotari has since been guided by Brian Lynch and set a new course record of 1:00.21 at Saratoga last year in a
5 1/2-furlong allowance. He’s now bankrolled $241,260.
Carotari is among the 13 winners and 5 blacktype runners so far in 2020 who’ve graduated from Hidden Brook Florida. New York stakes winner Kept True is among the others.
