Trainer David Fawkes saddled his second stakes winner on the September 29 Gulfstream Park card when Sandra New’s Louder Than Bombs rallied impressively for a two-length score in the $75,000 Armed Forces.
The juvenile son of Violence was bred by Hidden Brook Farm Spruce Lane Farm and was foaled, raised an later sold by Hidden Brook at the 2017 Keeneland September auction.
Ridden by Miguel Vazquez, Louder Than Bombs ran a mile over a firm turf course in 1:38.01 to claim his first stakes victory in three career starts. Timmy M. held second 4 ½ lengths ahead of Stirling Drive.
Louder Than Bombs saved ground while rating well off the early pace set by Soldat War showed the way around the first turn and along the backstretch while setting fractions of 23.37 and 47.59 seconds. Louder Than Bombs was swung to the outside on the turn into the homestretch, while Timmy M., the 8-5 favorite who had saved ground behind the leader by Paco Lopez, found room along the rail for the stretch Run. The favorite moved to the lead in mid-stretch but was no match for the Louder Than Bombs, who pulled away to victory on the outside.
“I kind of expected that last time but he kind of ran flat on me,” said Fawkes, whose trainee finished fourth in the Proud Man stakes after capturing his debut. “I really like this horse. He ran the race I expected today.”
Louder Than Bombs is one of two Hidden Brook September grads to capture weekend stakes along with Rocketry, winner of the September 30 Temperence Hill Invitational at Belmont Park.
