Spendthrift Farm’s freshman sire Cross Traffic had his first black-type winner Aug. 22 with Jaywalk, who powered through the stretch to catch the favorite in the White Clay Creek Stakes at Delaware Park.
The filly, bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds, showed the ability to rate in the 5 1/2-furlong stakes for 2-year-old fillies, coming off the turn four wide and rallying to score by 1 1/2 lengths.
The victory was the second in a row for Jaywalk, who placed second in her June 23 debut at Monmouth Park and then won a July 24 maiden special weight race at Parx Racing. She is trained by John Servis for D. J Stable and Cash is King.She began her path to the racetrack at the Hidden Brook Florida Breaking Training center in Ocala, Florida.
Jaywalk is the fourth winner and second stakes winner from five foals to race out of the Orientate mare Lady Pewitt.
A grade 1-winning son of Unbridled’s Song, Cross Traffic raced six times as a 4-year-old, when he began his racing career with back-to-back wins at Gulfstream Park for trainer Todd Pletcher, including a 7 1/2-length romp in allowance company.
The cleverly-named filly is also the second Hidden Brook Florida graduate to win a stakes race in August after Fiesta, winner of the Jellison Memorial S. on August 4.
