New York-bred Moanin, a $90,000 Hidden Brook Fasig-Tipton Saratoga graduate, closed with a furious pace to finish first in the Group I February Stakes at Tokyo Racecourse in Japan Sunday.
Trained by Sei Ishizaka, Moanin was guided to the victory by Mirco Demuro. Tracking the pace throughout with 15 other rivals, Moanin kicked into gear at the top of the stretch before stopping the timer for a mile at 1:34, a track record.
Owned by Yukio Baba, the four-year-oldMoanin is by Henny Hughes, out of the Distored Humor mare Giggly.
