Hidden Brook grad Golden Lad showed the way to a 1-3/4 length score over 2014 Classic contender Ride On Curlin Saturday in the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn Park.
Bidding from the outside on the eight horse field, Golden Lad made a wide move to take control at the eighth pole and held off the late running Ride On Curlin.
A son of Medaglia d’Oro, out of the Seeking the Gold mare Broadway Gold, Golden Lad’s last victory came in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap by an impressive seven lengths under jockey Ricardo Santana Jr.
Bred and owned by E. Paul Robsahm Stables, Golden Lad is trained by Todd Pletcher, and improves his record to 6 wins and $327,420 in earnings.
