The Thanksgiving bounty overflowed for the connections of Finnegans Wake, who overcame a field of ten turf specialists to win the Grade 2 Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar on Thursday.
Piloted by Victor Espinoza, the pair waited patiently while tracking a fairly quick pace near the back of the pack.
Making a huge late run down the center of the track, Finnegans Wake was noted by race caller Trevor Denman to be “coming like an express train” getting the lead from Patrioticandproud and the favorite Pizza Man to win by a neck.
Trained by Peter Miller for owner and breeder Donegal Racing, and foaled and raised at Hidden Brook, Finnegans Wake is by Powerscourt (GB), out of the Silver Ghost mare Boat’s Ghost.
