FIRING LINE 2nd in KY DERBY!

Sunday, May 3, 2015

Hidden Brook was well represented with its graduate roster this weekend, adding a new Grade 1 Stakes Winner (Finnegan’s Wake), a new 2015 stakes winner, and of course the most exctiing update: Firing Line’s second place in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby!
In 2015, the Hidden Brook program has already produced 19 Stakes Horses, 11 Stakes Winners, 6 Graded Stakes Winners, 3 Grade 1 Stakes Winners, and 12 Graded Stakes Horses!
In the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum Brands, Firing Line pressed pacesetter Dortmund throughout the early going, eventually passing that rival during the final stretch battle under veteren jockey Gary Stevens.
But bearing down on the leaders from the outside at the top of the lane, Champion Two-Year-Old and Derby favorite American Pharoah mounted a contentious challenge to both and took the lead. Firing Line succumbed to American Pharoah in late stretch, but gamely held on for second.
Firing Line devastated the field in the $800,000 Grade 3 Sunland Derby in his last start before the Kentucky Derby, winning by 14-1/4 lengths. Bred by Clearsky Farms and owned by Arnold Zetcher, the Line of David colt, out of the Hold For Gold mare Sister Girl Blues, is trained by Simon Callaghan.
Congratulations to all the connections!
